Climate & Humidity

Coriander grows in tropical to temperate climates during cooler parts of the year. It does not tolerate hot temperatures; it bolts (starts to flower and produce seed) rapidly in the heat.

Planting / Sowing

When to plant / sow seeds (ideal season):
June to July; October to November;

How to plant:
Direct sowing: Split the seeds into 2 halves. Soak seeds in water for 12 hours before sowing in partial shaded area.

Soil Depth & Spacing Requirements

Sow soaked seeds about half to one inch deep at 15 x 10 cm spacing. Germination occurs 8-15 days.

Irrigation

First irrigation to be done immediately after sowing and subsequent irrigation at 7-10 days interval.

Harvesting

When to harvest 
For leaf, cut as required from 30-40 days old.
For grain (seed), the plants are pulled just when the fruits are fully ripe but green and start drying (between 45 – 100 days).

How to harvest
For leaf, pick young leaves once the plants have reached about 6 to 8 inches tall. Gently cut stems at soil level.
For grain, pulled plants are dried and thrashed with sticks, winnowed and cleaned.
